Things to pack for hospital for C-section

Today I want to share with you all the items I found vital to pack in for my stay at hospital. Besides the long list of essentials, I would advise you to take a little suitcase, the one you take on board when flying, as this is nice and compact and can be stored easily in the small hospital room. Some general tips for you:
  • Pack at least 2 weeks ahead of your due date (in this way you are prepared and have one less thing to stress about/ stress your family out about)
  • Rather pack a little heavier than lighter and take home things that you have too much of
  • Tell your partner or family where you will be leaving your bag in case you cannot get to it the day you need to leave for hospital
  • Leave one Post it note with last things to remember to pack on top of the suitcase (mine had toothbrush and hairbrush on it :))

And here is my list:

For SELF
  1. Maternity Pads (while some hospitals might offer this in their freebie bag, take extra (2 packs)
  2. Pajamas (take 3 sets at least (your baby will spit up in the beginning)
  3. Underwear (again, take plenty sets, you will bleed and leak (nursing bra and panties)
  4. Breast Pads
  5. Maternity underwear (hospital might offer some, but take extra ones)
  6. Socks (I always get cold feet in hospital)
  7. Clean clothes (to come home in)
  8. Slippers
  9. Bathrobe
  10. Facecloth (2 should be enough)
  11. Lip ice
  12. Body Lotion
  13. Deodorant
  14. Shampoo
  15. Soap/ Shower gel
  16. Hairbands
  17. Cellphone
  18. Cellphone Charger
  19. Camera (Sometimes the Anesthesiologist offers to take photo's)
  20. A photo of your family at home :)
  21. A book :)

For BABY

  1. Nappies (2 full packets just in case)
  2. Nappy Bags
  3. Baby wipes (for sensitive ski)
  4. Bum Cream
  5. Bum Cream for rashes
  6. Surgical Spirits (to clean the belly button)
  7. Cotton wool
  8. Ear buds (to clean in the corners around the belly button)
  9. Shampoo
  10. Baby Wash
  11. Hooded Towel
  12. Baby grows (At least 3 different sets per day)
  13. Blankets (3 - 5 (hospitals are cold)

For HUBBY

  1. Deodorant
  2. Extra set of clothes
  3. Energy snacks
  4. Money (for food in between)

Hopefully this will all fit into one bag :), if not, take two. Remember that in case you do forget something, this can either be bought in the hospital shop, or your husband or family can bring it later for you when they visit you. Good luck.
